Welcome 8th Grade!
To the Class of 2020:
What a year huh? All I can say is that 2020 certainly has presented many challenges for you. You survived the challenges of distant learning and independent study. You were forced into this situation but I can only think this has made you stronger. The horrific news stories that have surrounded all of us these past 3 months have created a strength in you that you do not even realize. I pray that these challenges will prepare you of what lies ahead.
I realize you have been looking forward to your graduation since the school year started last August. You’ve probably been looking forward to it since you entered middle school. Its unfortunate you will not experience your 8th grade graduation as intended but I do hope you make the best of the situation. (Remember what Jesus teaches us through his Passion)
Despite all this, you have your hopes and your dreams and you must never let those go, nor your imagination. Once this is over, and it will, you will be able to fulfill your destiny.
I just want to say that it was a great (and very fast) three years of middle school. I think we all learned something in these three years. I know I did. This was such a great experience for me and I hope all of you had fun learning about your faith. We all learned something I think. Whether it was the mysteries of our faith, history, science, geology, astronomy, video games, star wars, Halo, zoology and the world around us, I think we all learned something... and had fun too.
Alas, our time together is over. However, yours is not done. Take what you learned and apply it to your lives. It is my strongest desire that all of you show the world what God and the Church means to you. Remember, you don't have to save the world to demonstrate this... Just love simply as Jesus did. Make Jesus proud. Think back to your Catholic education often and treasure it. Remember your Christian service and think on how blessed we all are and on how many strive for basic food and shelter. Count your blessings everyday. And pray always. Always be close to the Blessed Mother.
Please continue your discovery of God and His Church. I know we had three years learning about our Catholic faith, but there is still too much to learn and understand. God is real. God loves us. God has a plan for you. Always remember that. Go to Holy Mass, read the Bible, do good works and read the lives of the saints. Keep to the sacraments. The sacraments are a sign from God and the only protection from sin and the evil one. Remember the words of St. Paul: Keep the good fight! Always. Be committed always. Have faith.
Farewell 8th grade. I thank God I was your religion teacher. It was my pleasure and privilege. It was an awesome responsibility in giving you this precious gift that I call our Catholic faith. I will forever treasure our time together and say thank you to all of you. To my first class at St. Rose of Lima in which I taught all three years: congratulations on your achievement!
Always remember this about our faith: The Catholic faith is a great adventure or it is nothing at all. I truly believe this and I hope you do too.
Good luck to all of you in high school.
P.S. I will miss all of you... I already do.
Much Blessings,
Mr. V Gonzalez
